BASSJOI

Christian Drum & Bass DJ | Producer | S.O.C.A. Recordings

Bassjoi's story begins long before she ever stepped behind the decks. On her birthday in 1996, she attended her first rave in Houston, Texas, an experience that would forever shape her identity as an old-school '90s kandi raver and ignite a lifelong connection to underground electronic music. Her rave journey continued in Asheville, North Carolina, affectionately known as "Ashevegas," during an era when nearly every form of electronic music was simply called "techno."

But in 1998, one sound changed everything. While listening to DJ Keoki's Altered-Ego-Trip, Bassjoi heard a track by DJ Dara unlike anything she had encountered before. She became obsessed with the sound and eventually discovered its name: drum & bass. That moment marked the beginning of a journey that would come full circle decades later.

Fast-forward to Tampa in 2016, where Bassjoi was introduced to Florida's underground rave scene and eventually to DJing. Performing under the name Deva State of Mind, she began her DJ career in 2017, playing Skyway Beach raves before progressing to clubs and festivals. Her early performances included A Night of Drum & Bass and Electric Mayhem Festival. Over the course of her career, she also appeared at events such as Transcend, Grand Thump Auto, Wild Style, 5 Fingers of Death, Game of Tones, and System Failure. During her earlier years in the underground scene, Bassjoi was affiliated with Pulse Nation Progressive, Dance From Dusk Till Dawn, and Project Stimuli.

Behind the music, however, was a much darker story. Years of partying and drug use had developed into deep addiction and brokenness. She met her husband, an established producer and DJ, at an underground rave, and together, their shared addiction created what could only be described as an appetite for destruction. In 2020, a drug overdose nearly took Bassjoi's life. At the time, she was an atheist. But during that experience, she had a profound spiritual awakening that ultimately led her to surrender her life to Christ.

She stepped away from the scene and spent the next six years rebuilding her life, strengthening her faith, and leaving behind the person she had once been. Then came the call to return. This time, the mission was different. Bassjoi returned to the music industry alongside her husband, not simply to entertain, but to bring light into places where she once experienced darkness. From that transformation, Bassjoi was born.

Now signed to her husband's label, S.O.C.A. Recordings (Servants of Christ Alone), Bassjoi channels her underground roots into drum & bass driven by techstep, neuro, and ragga influences. Her sets and productions carry unmistakable underground energy, featuring heavyweight rolling basslines, razor-sharp drums, dark textures, and raw rave intensity, while delivering a message of hope, redemption, and new life. Her musical identity remains deeply connected to the underground culture that first inspired her. From the early days of '90s rave culture to the hard-hitting sounds of modern drum & bass, Bassjoi brings both experience and authenticity to her performances.

She also hosts "drum & bassjoi sessions," a continuing DJ mix series showcasing her sound and musical mission. Her sets and productions can be found across major music platforms through bassjoi.com, where listeners can connect with her music and follow her journey.

Based in Gainesville, Florida, Bassjoi continues to share her testimony and musical mission through performances and productions. Her upcoming appearances include Myth Nightclub in Jacksonville, Florida, Earthdance Online, and YHWH Eden in Houston, Texas.

From a '90s kandi kid discovering drum & bass for the first time, through addiction, a near-fatal overdose, faith, recovery, and ultimately a return to the decks, Bassjoi's story has come full circle. The "bass" is still deep. The underground roots are still there. But now, there's a pure "joi" behind the frequency.

"deep bass, pure joi"
